Mulut celupar Muhyiddin Yassin...

Concern over Muhyiddin’s statement...

An Inter-faith group expressed concern over the statement reportedly made by the deputy prime minister over a video clip that all non-Muslims are insulting Islam.

Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism president Sardar Jagir Singh said by making such a statement, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin may have created a negative view among Muslims of non-Muslims.

"This will provoke more misunderstandings between Muslims and non-Muslims," he said.

He was referring to a statement made by Muhyiddin on Tuesday over a video clip on YouTube entitled "1 Hari di Hari Raya".

The video showed a woman with her three pet dogs against the "takbir" raya and a Hari Raya song.

Muhyiddin had reportedly commented that the video showed "there is no deep understanding within the society" on sensitivities towards religion.

Sardar said there have been many instances in the past when people used derogatory remarks on a certain race or religion.

"But no actions were taken against them. Whether Muslims or non-Muslims, actions that are taken should be consistent," he said.

"Non-Muslims are not trying to question Muslims neither are they trying to question Islam."

Sardar said the council is unhappy over Muhyiddin's statement.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Development Department said the video has put Islam in a bad light especially it being the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement, its director general Datuk Othman Mustapha said the video is unforgivable.

He said the production of the video was a deliberate attempt to provoke the anger of Muslims by equating dogs with Muslims with the "takbir" raya in the background.

He said they had met Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission today to address the issue and will assist the commission to take action against those involved.-theSundaily
